Overview
The Ministry of Education has been working with St Bede's College to make some changes to their enrolment scheme. This is to continue to assist the Board to manage a situation where there is more demand for enrolments than there are places available within the maximum roll, provide a fair and transparent process for enrolment and to ensure we are making the best use of schooling facilities across the network of local schools.

How this applies to a state integrated school – New Zealand Legislation
Recent changes to Catholic parishes across the Catholic Diocese of Christchurch mean an amendment is required to the enrolment scheme. This change to the enrolment scheme identifies areas of reasonable convenience for St Bede's College in the form of Qualifying Parishes (see maps below). Applicants to St Bede's College who reside in a Qualifying Parish will be prioritised above applicants who do not.
The amended enrolment scheme for St Bede's College is proposed to commence from 28 April 2025.
Note that all students who are already enrolled at St Bede's College before the enrolment scheme changes commence are entitled to stay at St Bede's College.
The proposal includes an “Additional Entitlement to Enrol” provision. This provision proposes that Preference Applicants who are siblings of students enrolled at the date that the enrolment scheme amendment is implemented by the school's Board will be considered as if they reside within the school’s catchment. This provision would not apply to Preference Applicants who have a sibling who attended the College at the implementation date, but who are no longer enrolled at the Preference Applicant’s start date. Please read the details of this provision within the proposed enrolment scheme and provide specific feedback if this affects you.
It is important that we hear and understand community perspectives before we establish these changes to the enrolment scheme at St Bede's College – especially the design of the enrolment categories and priorities.
