The purpose of an enrolment scheme in a state school is:

  • to avoid overcrowding, or the likelihood of overcrowding, at the school, and
  • to ensure the selection of applicants for enrolment at the school is carried out in a fair and transparent manner, and
  • to enable the Secretary to make the best use of existing networks of state schools.

The proposed scheme would become effective for enrolment in 2025. A copy of the proposed scheme is available below.

As part of this process, we are formally consulting with whānau, hāpu, iwi, and with all people living in the area for which the school is a reasonably convenient school. Note, the enrolment scheme could affect which school a student will be entitled to enrol in.
